Dublin 7 Kitchen and Bathroom Tiling

Customer reference for Karl Ronan Tiling as told to pickapro by Susan Carberry from Stoneybatter, Dublin 7 on 21-Apr-2014

When was the work done?
October 2013.

What was involved?
Retiling of a bathroom including one wall and a splashback. And then there was retiling and leveling of a kitchen floor.

How did you choose Karl Ronan?
I saw Karl on pickapro. He had very good testimonials, his profile came across as very professional and he seemed to cover a lot of areas of work. When I contacted Karl, he got back quite promptly, and seemed very interested, so we just got a good feeling from him.

Karl's rates were very, very reasonable as well. He wasn't the cheapest or most expensive. He really earned his money because it was a hard space to work in and he really put in the hours.

Had you definite ideas in mind before you talked to Karl Ronan?
We did have for the kitchen floor. For the bathroom, Karl was great in that we had a particular problem we had to solve and Karl immediately came up with a solution. We had a wall partially tiled beside the bath, but the previous tiler hadn't sealed the bath properly so the wall was still getting wet. Karl suggested moving a few things and putting a new seal on it, so he was very good in that way.

Did Karl introduce new ideas?
Yes, apart from the bath problem, Karl pointed out a few other things that we didn't know would be problems later on, so he was able to fix more than we expected. He was very, very good in that he gave us more information.

How did the project run?
Absolutely brilliant. Karl arranged a time, then texted the day before to make sure the time was still OK. He arrived when he said he would and he was very good at keeping in touch.

And the workmanship was just superb, really excellent. it was a very difficult project in that the kitchen is really small so he was very confined in where he could work. The floor was incredibly difficult in that it's a really old house with a really uneven floor so he had a lot of prep work to do with the floor. He was more than happy to do that.

When it turned out there was a bit more work involved, Karl didn't up his price, he just got on with it. He was great at cleaning up too.

What was the biggest benefit to you of using Karl Ronan?
The reliabilty, and the craftsmanship. We just felt we could trust Karl to come up with a solution. He was able to just get on with the job and come back to us when it was done.

What's your favourite part now?
Yes, the kitchen floor is brilliant. It was so uneven but Karl actually managed to make the floor look remarkably well and it really adds to the kitchen. I feel without Karl, we would have had to go for less ornate tiles because we couldn't have got such a good finish.

Would you recommend Karl Ronan to others?
Yes, absolutely, I've recommended him already to friends and family.

Any tips for other people?
Yes, I would say definitely have a look around at different tile styles, and really describe your property when you're buying the tiles. We have quite a small space, and were thinking large tiles, but were told there would be too much waste. Use other people's expertise. Don't be too set in your ideas, and ask a lot of questions. And if you have an older house, be prepared for unexpected difficulties and allow some extra time.
