When was the work done?
In September 2019. What was involved?
Domestic Fitouts did a full renovation of the downstairs of my house. They opened up the wall between the living room and hall and installed new glass panels and a glass panel door to let more light in. They also fitted new floors, doors, windows, insulated the walls, replastered the old stippled ceilings and painted and decorated throughout.
How did you choose Domestic Fitouts?
A friend of mine recommended Domestic Fitouts to me. They had done work for her and she said that they were very good. I talked to a few different companies but I found Colin very impressive. He went through all the details and explained everything to me really well. I could see that he really knew what he was talking about.
Had you definite ideas in mind before you talked to Domestic Fitouts?
I wanted to modernise but I didn't want to go ultra-modern, I was looking for a good balance.
Did Colin introduce new ideas?
Yes, he went through every bit of it with me right down to the colours. For example, he explained how to understand the various windows quotes so I was comparing like for like in terms of insulation.
How did the project run?
I was delighted with the work - everything turned out lovely. And I was delighted that they left everything spotless because I'm a fussy type of person! They made sure everything was spotless and well finished..
Also they give a schedule for the work and a contract with everything fully broken down. I paid the interim payments as each part was completed and when I was happy with it. The final payment at the end is held back till everything was done, all the little touch-ups and the cleanup. It was great.
Schedulewise, they were very straightforward. It took to me a while to pick stuff but when it came in, the guys were on the ball. They didn't give you some story about coming but not actually turning out. They were honest.
What was the biggest benefit to you of using Domestic Fitouts?
I suppose that they were professionals. They knew what they were talking about and they guided me along. It was the honesty. Colin was upfront and would say "Well, look, I know you would love this, but that really won't work. If you do it this way, it would work." That was brilliant.
What's your favourite part now?
I'm actually delighted with the lot of it now!. When I walk in now, it feels like I'm walking into a new house. It's like I left the 80's and came into the 21st century!
Would you recommend Domestic Fitouts to others?
Oh, I already have. Actually, my sister is looking for a lot of work done after Christmas so she's going to get them as well.
Any tips for other people?
Well, really to sit down with somebody and let them explain the pitfalls and the details. There's stuff I wouldn't even has considered about parking for example that can make a big difference.
