When was the work done?
The work began in August, 2020 and finished in early October. What was involved?
It was a big job involving a kitchen extension, an attic conversion and a patio out back with a wall for the garden.
How did you choose O Flaherty Construction?
We had initially picked another builder to do the job but we weren't really happy with them, so at the last minute, I decided to look around for someone else. I went on the Pickapro website because I had used it before to have smaller jobs done around the house. I saw Pat there and I really liked his reviews so I had him over to the house for a consultation. Pat had a great manner, good ideas to go with ours and really seemed to know what he was talking about. We were very comfortable with his approach to the project and so we chose him for the job.
Had you definite ideas in mind before you talked to Pat O' Flaherty?
We did, yes. We had architects drawings for the extension and for the attic but we were open to other ideas as well.
Did Pat introduce new ideas?
He did and in fact Pat was able to spot problems with the architects plans for the staircase leading to the attic. Pat said that it wouldn't work as it was designed but that he had a better idea to get the staircase done. We went with his recommendation and I'm glad we did because it turned out brilliant.
How did the project run?
It couldn't have gone better. Pat and his team were here bang on every morning at 7:30, worked throughout the day and when they were finished would clean up and leave the place tidy. They were so reliable. There was even one day where it was raining hard but Pat still turned up to explain to us in person that they wouldn't be able to do any work that day. He could have called but he took the extra step to speak to us face to face in case we had other questions or wanted to discuss the project.
What was the biggest benefit to you of using O Flaherty Construction?
Pat went over and above what he had to do and we're delighted with the result. Pat was always one step ahead of us and explained everything that was being done. That was nice as it meant we didn't have to chase after him always asking questions which can get awkward. I also liked the fact that Pat can really think for himself and was able to foresee problems before they occurred and get things sorted. I had total trust in the whole team and didn't mind giving them the run of the house.
What's your favourite part now?
I don't really have one favourite part, I'm delighted with all of it.
Would you recommend O Flaherty Construction to others?
I would highly recommend Pat and if I need any more work carried out, I'll be calling him back.
Any tips for other people?
I think you need to be clear in the beginning what your budget is and stick with it. Your budget should also include a contingency fund in case of unforeseen problems or if you decide to get extra work carried out.
