When was the work done?
Summer 2015. What was involved?
The kitchen needed to be modernised and we needed more space. We did already have a small extension which was really just an annexed off playroom. O' Flaherty Construction added a new extension and incorporated the old extension. So we now have a large kitchen with a TV area and double doors into it from the new TV room.
They also put an ensuite into one of the bedrooms and upgraded our attic conversion. The stairs up to it were awkward and the roof needed to be reshaped to add height to the room.
How did you choose O Flaherty Construction?
My brother is an architect, and he told me to contact Pat. We also got about four of five other builders out at the same time to price the job. I suppose I leaned towards Pat because he had done some work for my brother who, as I said, was the architect. If he had no complaints then I don't think I would.
Had you definite ideas in mind before you talked to Pat O' Flaherty?
Yes, my brother had drawn up plans for me. They were well thought out and by enlarge we didn't deviate from them.
How did the project run?
Very well. Pat showed up with his team every day and they seemed to get an awful lot done in the day. It came in on schedule as far as I remember. If there was any delays, it would have been down to the roof and the weather. And I was very happy with the workmanship, especially the tiling.
We stayed living in the house through the entire project, Pat made it as comfortable for us all as he could.
Even afterwards if there was little things might have gone wrong in our house, I was able to ring Pat up. For example, I had a problem with a lock on the backdoor, and gave him a call and he said, "If I don't get you it this afternoon, I'll get to you this evening." He's just somebody you could rely on.
What was the biggest benefit to you of using O Flaherty Construction?
Trust, I felt comfortable with Pat and I trusted the fact that if Pat was bringing someone into the house that they were good at what they did and that they were reliable.
Would you recommend O Flaherty Construction to others?
Yes, and have done.
Any tips for other people?
Do your homework carefully and ask the builders to give you some customer contacts so that you can check their work. Pat has given people my contact details and I have no problem with recommending him. I've been in the position before of getting the wrong builders - this time round I was getting it right.
